About Us

| Supporting General Practice in Australia
AGPN has existed since the mid 90's as a representative body for general practitioners in Australia. We were the national body for the divisions of general practice until a change to local medicare networks in the early 2010s. Since then we have continued to operate as a not for profit advocating for general practice and as a health promotion charity focusing on working with GPs to prevent disease.

In the last few years, we have:
-> collaborated with the Immunisation Coalition to introduce the Meningococcal B vaccination to the state childhood immunisation schedules
-> worked with GP clinics and nursing homes in SA to reduce the impact of Influenza outbreaks
-> trialed Point of Care testing processes in general practice to provide rapid treatment for Influenza, COVID-19 and RSV
-> national advocacy to promote collaboration between breast screening programs and GPs to increase participation rates
-> successfully collaborated with National breast cancer research groups to advocate for the addition of breast density to public breast screen reports
-> worked with GPs and RACGP to investigate and identify barriers to breast screening for eligible and at risk individuals
-> exploring paths to use technology to assist Alzheimer’s patients and their carers so that they can remain at home for longer, this is of particular focus for rural patients.
-> worked with general practice to create streamlined RSV vaccination processes for at risk Veterans
